While a person can feel better after a good talk with a friend or relative, for moderate or severe emotional distress, this relief may only be temporary. However, talking with a trained listener can help alleviate emotional distress for good. This is because Psychotherapists are trained to listen and interact in a way that helps you get to the very root of your emotional concerns, helping you gain insight into your feelings, change behaviors, and resolve problems.
Although I mostly use cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Talk therapy can also combine different approaches. This is in order to better tailor therapy for each individual. I therefore also use a combination of approaches including: Person Centered, Transactional Analysis, Psychodynamics, and Existential. All of these approaches can be very powerful tools, in helping us attain long and lasting change in our lives. Both in our relationships with ourselves, and with others.
I work with individuals and couples. If you would like to talk, you can email or call me for an appointment, where we can meet and discuss whether psychotherapy is right for you.
